Caravan Palace - Artwalk - Drift

Sunday morning, I am slowly getting back on track after days of nursing a cold and resting leisurely. Today is time to go to the studio with Artwalk approaching, there's a lot to do. Cleaning and grooming the studio is always at the top of the list.  I am also finishing the last two paintings and finding titles for them.  Here they are, almost done with tentative titles.
                                                                      Moon Glow

 Tangerine Implosion

Today, the music in the studio is Caravan Palace, here's a little teaser for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BoaOsvZmpw&feature=relmfu - creative clip and fun music!

Remember to come to Artwalk next week end Dec. 1 & 2 and bring all your friends.
I can't wait to show you my new work,
please stop at the Fig Tree Studio # 13
for Art and Chat with a cup of Chai and a piece of Fig cake.
Soon brushes and paint will be put away for a while, after Artwalk is Drift at the Nanaimo Art Gallery on Dec 14, 15 & 16. I love this time of the year with inspiring visits with other artists, friends and art afficionados!  See you around, keep well.

Jane Siberry

A full house greeted Jane Siberry on Gabriola Island last night and everyone enjoyed her
delightful and moving performance.  Her fascinating voice, mesmerizing lyrics and wry
humour kept us entranced the whole evening.  She weaves a story between each song, like
a metaphor of her adventures and encounters while on tour with her dog Magic. Through
her lips painted blue came this beautiful song, one of her all time favorites ‘Calling all Angels'  written in 1992, sang here with k.d. Lang, a real gem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRUErh47sao

Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Santa Anna, Santa Susannah
Santa Cecilia, Santa Copelia, Santa Domenica, Mary Angelica
Frater Achad, Frater Pietro, Julianus, Petronilla
Santa, Santos, Miroslaw, Vladimir
and all the rest

a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness the body oh the heaviness settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it's one foot then the other as you step out onto the road
how much weight? how much weight?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times before it's too late?

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're cryin' and we're hurtin'
and we're not sure why...

and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
it's almost...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you'd finally understand what this all means

but if you could...do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you'd miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
callin' all angels
callin' all angels
we're tryin'
we're hopin'
we're hurtin'
we're lovin'
we're cryin'
we're callin'
'cause we're not sure how this goes.

‘Mama Hereby’ brought tears to my eyes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9HVTaTMs8M  and there was this song ‘the White Tent the Raft’ which I received in colours & shapes and will to try to capture on canvas tomorrow.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nknj3uH5UO8

Thank you Jane Siberry for sharing your talent, your humour and your brilliance with us,
it was such a treat!

Now, if you click on the blog gallery above, you can see a dozen of new paintings done specially for Artwalk on Dec.1st and 2nd. Please, plan to come to Artwalk, there are  nearly 50 local artists exhibiting their work on that week end, there will be some really good art, and of course, make sure you stop by my studio.

Fallen Leaves and Andy Goldsworthy

Had a lovely Sunday morning walk with my friend Victoria today,  in a light west coast drizzle.

Westwood lake was still today

The colourful carpet of leaves in the woods made me think of Andy Goldsworthy’s work.  In the autumn, fallen leaves are one of his sources of inspiration. Here are a few examples of his work made from leaves.

I was tempted to stay in the woods for a while and make a little piece with leaves of different colours la Goldsworthy', but there was no time for art in the woods today, on my porch was a big basket of apples waiting to get transformed into yummy apple sauce.
