Hear the Sound & Going to a Town

In the studio, there's a new big painting in the making: Acceptance. I want to keep it soft because there's something emotional about it now that needs to be preserved I think. The next layers will accentuate these qualities and add a bit of mystery. At least, it's the plan!

Acceptance (detail)
I have also been playing with 2 small paintings- Hear the Sound is finished and the other one needs a bit more work to tell its story.  Let me know what you think, and enjoy a creative week!

Hide and Seek (in progress)

My favorite soundtrack this week end was Out of the Game from the newest album by Rufus Wainwright. Here's another favorite Going to a Town:

Creative People - Journey to Inclusion - Constant Craving

At an art event last week end in Kelowna, I was reminded how artists thrive in the company of creative people and, everyone who came to the workshops were all artistically inclined.  It made for a nice crowd!  We all returned home refreshed, inspired and energized.

The participants were exploring textures with 5 colours and a stencil, chicken wire and textured wall paper. Some very rich pieces came out of these experiments.

Side two of the panel has lost its dove and smiles.  Here's the new look.  I really like it, it's going in a direction that pleases me and I will keep exploring it.

Battlefield and Merlin the Cat

This is the newest version of the painting in progress Battlefield.  There are some interesting textures and the overall scene is softer than some of the latest versions.  Many decisions had to be made about this piece, for some reason, it was hard to get it together, I am hoping to sign it soon.

Battlefield 3' x 5'  oil and cold wax
In the meantime, I have been working on other paintings, among which the ones for the multicultural project Journey to Inclusion. This first side Tolerance is finished and the other side with the word Peace is still in working. The final version is coming soon. Stay tuned!

Here is Mister Merlin contemplating his own little grass garden growing on the window sill.

In the studio, I have been listening over and over to Chloe Ste Marie.  Here she is:

In the Studio and Sigur Ros

The current work in progress Battlefield is getting a make over. It is always hard to appreciate parts of a painting but not the image as a whole. So, after many unfruitful tries, out came the bucket of gesso! It is slowly revealing a new story.
I have also been working on the painting for the side one of the 'Journey to Inclusion' project with the Multicultural Society.  Colour is appearing sparsely, the overall will be in subdued tones of gold and grey with splashes of colour in the eyes.  Also, the sketches for side two are coming together with a series of smiles at the top, the drawing of a dove above a dark cloud and at the bottom the word Peace.

Today, the music I am listening to in the studio is Sigur Ros, here's Hoppipola:

Sigur Ros from Iceland sings in a made up language.  They have created a musically inspired vocalization that is hauntingly beautiful.  The band calls it Volenska, and sings with passion and emotion.

Have a creative week!

Cirque du Soleil - Work in Progress - New Projects

I saw the show Amaluna from le Cirque du Soleil in Vancouver Sunday. Experienced the show is more like it!   Pure bliss for the senses, a world of colours and movements with performers extraordinaires.  What a visual treat!

Peaceful time spent in the studio working on my last painting 'Battlefield'

on Dec. 30th
Jan. 15th

The project 'Journey to Inclusion' with the Multicultural Society is starting to take shape. The board has gesso on both sides and a light wash all over to break the white.  Here is the new sketch for side One, which represents the situation that my partner for this project faces regularly in our community.  The upper background is made of a series of eyes forming a pattern, and the dark pattern of the dress will be made of flowers. If all goes well, I will start the painting tomorrow.

The new project called Decouvertes artistiques will bring together 16 visual artists from all over the province.  Four events will be created giving each artist the opportunity to do a piece of work in direct and to discuss our creative process with the public.  Some of us will work in pair to develop and present a unique performance sharing and melting our techniques on the same support.  I am looking forward to this.
